Do 7th gen intel processors support windows 7 free. Microsoft will support some, but not most, 7th-gen Intel Core CPUs in Windows 11

Connectivity is given a boost in Kaby Lake. The chips will support the new Thunderbolt 3 standard, as well as USB 3. But perhaps the most controversial feature of these chips is one we mentioned at the start of this article: namely that previous versions of Windows will not be supported on this chipset. No matter whether you’re a home-builder or an OEM Original Equipment Manufacturer , you’ll have to use Windows 10, otherwise you won’t receive security updates or patches.
This will undoubtedly earn the ire of users, but there’s a really good reason for it. In an official blogpost called “Windows 10 Embracing Silicon Innovation” , they attributed this to the immense difficulty in ensuring older versions of Windows are able to use the features of these chips:. For Windows 7 to run on any modern silicon, device drivers and firmware need to emulate Windows 7’s expectations for interrupt processing, bus support, and power states, which is challenging for WiFi, graphics, security, and more.
As partners make customizations to legacy device drivers, services, and firmware settings, customers are likely to see regressions with Windows 7 ongoing servicing. Before you take to Twitter and start bombarding Intel with angry messages, it’s worth pointing out that they’re not alone in this. Both AMD remember them? If you require a response, contact support.

The W10 loader will be modified to dual boot W7. If you wish to dual boot with Mint or Ubuntu both work well you can install the “Refind loader” in your Linux. This loader is completely automatic and will pick up any OS on the PC. It only works with UEFI boot. Intel Generation 8 computers do support Legacy.
This is rubbish. With Legacy support enabled you get it added to the external boot menu F9? The UEFI section remains intact. This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.
I manage several M tenants all with Security Defaults enabled and in one specific tenant, for some reason, no users including Global Admins are able to create a Team directly in the Teams app using the “Join or create a team” option. So it seems with your 7th Gen CPU it will not work, or at least is not supported. Whether MS can further ‘hobble’ it somehow in the future in an attempt to force more people onto W10, I cannot say. But as I said, unfortunately I do not actually have a 7th gen CPU or your specified motherboard to confirm. If your motherboard USB ports don’t work during install, you will have to use PS2 keyboard and Tab key during install of windows. Once windows is installed you should install straight away the USB3 drivers, then the chipset or the other way around depending of your MB.
Windows 7 support is announced to stop in , but I guess like XP it will be extended for a couple more year if you use windows update. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.
